BEIRUT—An Iranian scientist working for a key nuclear site was killed in Tehran with a magnetic bomb attached to his car, in what the government said was a plot by the U.S. and Israel to sow unrest and interfere with its nuclear program.
The scientist, Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, 32 years old, was a chemical engineer and the deputy director of commerce for the Natanz uranium enrichment facility in central Iran, according to an official news release published by IRNA state-news agency.
The explosion rocked the neighborhood of Gol Nabi Street in north Tehran at around 8:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday when a motorcycle approached the silver Peugeot 405 car carrying Mr. Roshan, according to official news reports.
The assassin then stuck a magnetic bomb on the right back door of the vehicle where Mr. Roshan was sitting. When it detonated it killed him instantly, and critically wounded another passenger and the driver, the reports said.
